Forest School sessions are always led by a qualified Forest School practitioner and are conducted over a period of time in an environment away from the child’s* usual setting. Trust is central to the Forest School approach and although adults ensure that the location is as safe as reasonably possible, children are encouraged to take appropriate risks as part of their holistic development as they acquire an impressive range of knowledge, skills and positive attitudes which will benefit all aspects of their lives. Each session has a clear and structured routine - most activities are child led with adult support and occur in all but the worst types of weather as children are expected to wear suitable clothing.
*the term ‘child’ relates to infants, children and young people equally irrespective of age, gender, religious or cultural issues.
